HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set) is a set of standardized performance measures by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) which allows direct, objective comparison of quality across health plans. This month we are spotlighting the two HEDIS measures that focus on adult members adherence to prescribed psychiatric medication: AMM and SAA.

Antidepressant Medication Management (AMM) focuses on members 18 years of age and older who have a diagnosis of major depression and who were treated and remained on an antidepressant medication. The effective acute phase treatment measures members who remained on an antidepressant medication for at least 84 days and the effective continuation phase treatment measures members who remained on an antidepressant medication for at least 180 days.

Adherence to Antipsychotic Medications for Individuals with Schizophrenia (SAA) focuses on adult members with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder who were dispensed and remained on antipsychotic medication for at least 80% of their treatment period.

Educating members on importance of remaining on medication helps improve both the AMM and SAA measure. Please view the training for medical and behavioral health providers on AMM and SAA members and strategies to improve AMM and SAA Adherence.
