Attention: Important updates on the Next Generation of Ohio Medicaid program

Date: 12/12/22

Over the past year, Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) began making several changes to improve the Medicaid program in Ohio. These changes are called the Next Generation Ohio Medicaid program. ODM’s goals of the Next Generation program are – to focus on the individual and improve the provider experience. ODM wants to listen to members and is fixing issues that have been experienced by providers. ODM wants to hear your feedback about the changes being made.

What is changing?

Based on the feedback we have received and our commitment to carefully transitioning, we will not start the new Next Generation managed care plans on December 1. ODM will begin the Next Generation managed care plans and program requirements on February 1, 2023, including improvements that will support members in accessing healthcare services and supports they need.

What Ohio Medicaid members need to know:

There will be no disruption in services for members. The date your Next Generation managed care plan takes effect depends on the plan you selected.

  • Buckeye Health Plan members who did not make an active plan selection during the member transition and open enrollment period, March 1-November 30 will continue receiving healthcare coverage through their current managed care plan.
  • Paramount Advantage members will continue receiving healthcare coverage through Paramount Advantage. On February 1, 2023, these members will be transitioned to Anthem unless they selected a different Next Generation plan.
  • Buckeye Health Plan members who selected a new Next Generation managed care plan (AmeriHealth Caritas, Humana Healthy Horizons) will begin receiving services from that plan February 1, 2023. They will continue receiving services from their current plan until then.
  • Buckeye Health Plan members who selected a different continuing plan (CareSource Ohio, Inc., Buckeye Health Plan, Molina Healthcare of Ohio, Inc., or United Healthcare Community Plan of Ohio, Inc.) will begin receiving services from that plan on December 1.
  • Individuals who are currently in Medicaid fee-for-service but have not selected Buckeye Health Plan as their Next Generation managed care plan will receive care paid for through Medicaid fee-for-service until February 1, 2023, when they are transitioned to Buckeye Health Plan.

If you received a member ID card or other communications from Buckeye Health Plan indicating a different Next Generation start date than what is explained above, we apologize for the confusion. Some materials were sent to members ahead of ODM changing the start date. To verify your current managed care plan or new plan you selected, please contact the Ohio Medicaid Consumer Hotline at 800-324-8680 or by visiting www.ohiomh.com.

Please continue using your current plan ID card, as you have been, when seeking services.
