Buckeye continues serving Medicaid members under Next Generation of Ohio Medicaid Managed Care Plan contract

Date: 02/23/23

Effective, February 1, the Ohio Department of Medicaid (ODM) launched its Next Generation managed care plan in conjunction with Buckeye Health Plan as one of seven managed care plans serving Medicaid members statewide.  The Next Generation plan puts the focus on member needs and not the business of managed care.

“For nearly two decades, Buckeye has been a trusted health plan for the State of Ohio and those we are honored to serve,” said Buckeye President and CEO Steve Province. “We remain dedicated to connecting Medicaid members with quality care and services to address their specific needs. Under the new Next Generation contract, we also provide access to new tools and resources. Our aims are to achieve better health outcomes for our members and a more streamlined experience for providers across the state.”

Under ODM’s Next Generation Plan, Buckeye will participate in new member-focused programs and initiatives. This includes:

  • OhioRISE (Resilience through Integrated Systems and Excellence), a specialized managed care program that provides behavioral health services to youth with complex behavioral health and multi-system needs.
  • Single Pharmacy Benefit Manager (SPBM) that improves management and administration of pharmacy benefits for Medicaid members while decreasing costs for the state.

In addition, Buckeye is expanding care management through the use of care guides who assist members with services outside of medical, dental and vision coverage, including social concerns and referrals to community resources such as housing, food and utility payments.

These additional initiatives aim to improve health outcomes for Ohio Medicaid members. To learn more about the Next Generation of Ohio Medicaid, visit ODM's Next Gen website.
